Oleg Kudryashov
An exclusive collection of Oleg Kudryashov's work.
The story
Why would a Ukrainian gallery showcase the work of a Russian artist?
Because of the decisions that he represents.
Oleg Kudryashov was an anti-Soviet dissident who decided to flee the USSR in 1974, when it was almost as dark a place as Russia is today. He decided to burn his life’s work instead of surrendering it to the Soviet regime.
He arrived to London, via Austrian and Italian refugee camps. Starting from scratch, but leading a life that aligned with his values.
Today, 4 years after his passing, Kudryashov’s work hangs in lasting defiance of authoritarianism and in rejection of forced ideologies.
Kudryashov’s public collections are treasured by Tate Modern, Smithsonian, and the National Gallery of Art. But Kira.Foundation represents the largest private collection of Kudryashov’s work, which is now on auction.
If you are an artist in Russia today, what decisions will you make?
Don’t be afraid to burn.
